Steve McConahey

In addition to his management role with Iron Gate Capital, Stephen G. McConahey is currently chairman of SGM Capital, LLC, and co- founder and partner of Iron Gate Capital, a private equity investment firm. Previously, Mr. McConahey was president and chief operating officer of EVEREN Capital Corporation and its principal subsidiary EVEREN Securities, Inc. Mr. McConahey was a co-founder of the firm which resulted from a management and employee purchase of Kemper Securities in 1995. EVEREN became a public company in 1996 and was purchased by First Union Corporation in 1999.

Mr. McConahey began his career in the securities brokerage industry in 1977 when he joined Boettcher and Company in Denver, Colorado. At Boettcher he managed both the public and corporate finance departments and was named chairman and chief executive officer in 1984. He joined Kemper Financial Services in 1985 shortly after Boettcher was acquired by Kemper Corporation and oversaw their corporate and international development activities. He became president of Kemper Securities in 1995.

Earlier in his career, Mr. McConahey worked for the consulting firm of McKinsey and Company. Subsequent to that he received a White House Fellowship and then served as a program manager in the US department of Transportation. Following that he served as a member of President Ford’s senior White House staff as Special Assistant for Intergovernmental Affairs.

Mr. McConahey received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin and a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School.

Mr. McConahey has been active in numerous national and community boards and advisory groups including the Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Denver Corporation (its first chairman), the Downtown Denver Partnership, the Daniels College of Business Advisory Board, the Denver Symphony Board of Directors, the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Studies Advisory Council, the US Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation Board, Chicago’s Field Museum Board of Trustees, the Illinois Institute of Technology Advisory Board, and the NYSE Regional Firm Advisory Board. He currently serves on the boards of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, the Denver School of Science and Technology, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver (past chair), the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and Denver Sports.

He currently serves on corporate boards of Cal Dak International, Great – West Funds Inc, IMA Financial Group, and Guaranty BanCorp and previously served on the boards of First Western Trust Bank, Macquarie-Pro Logis Trust, IQ Navigator and AMLI Real Estate Investment Trust.

Mr. McConahey is an avid skier, cyclist, golfer, scuba diver and fly fisherman.
